Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM)
Nehru Institute of Mountaineering is considered one of the best mountaineering institutes in India and my first-hand experience confirms the same. I’d long been dreaming of the course and had trained reasonably hard for it. I’d run a Full Marathon, done lots of treks until my knee broke down just a couple of months before the course. I’d no option but to rest because below par fitness is much better than not being able to walk! Eventually my knee held up and I felt my fitness levels were good enough to complete the course successfully.
NIM is situated a little above the town of Uttarkashi. The campus is great with all the facilities you will need in an Institute. The hostels are clean and the food is great! Our course had 73 people to start with and by the time we finished we were 65 with almost 20+ from Armed Forces and NCC. We were divided into 11 ropes (groups) each with an Instructor. Our rope had 7 people with our Instructor being Sub.Tejpal Singh Negi, SM, from the Indian Army – Wonderful and a very humble man with great achievements.
Peaceful town of Uttarkashi!
